The CRMA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is to provide ethical standards and rules of conduct for all persons who are certified to use the Certified Reverse Mortgage Advisor (CRMA)TM designation.

The Code describes values and rules applicable to all CRMA designees. Under the Code, CRMA designees generally are responsible and will be held responsible for their actions or failures to act in the manner laid out in this Code.

CRMA designees must be willing to commit and to adhere to the Business Standards and comply with the Rules of Conduct as set forth in this Code.

The Business standards include the following:

Competence: Maintain the knowledge ad skill necessary to provide Reverse Mortgage services competently.

Integrity: Provide professional services with integrity.

Fairness: Be fair and reasonable in all professional relationships.

Confidentiality: Protect the privacy and confidentiality of all client information.

Professionalism: Conduct business in a manner that demonstrates the utmost in professional conduct.

Diligence: Provide professional services diligently.

The CRMA Board of Ethics and Standards, investigates formal complaints lodged against CRMA designees for alleged violations of the Code. The Board reviews all complaint cases and disciplines CRMA designees when appropriate.

CRMA designees are required to comply with the Standards and Rules set forth in this Code. CRMA designees must also follow all rules and regulations set forth in the mortgage industry that are promulgated by state and federal law, licensing boards, state agencies, companies, and industry organizations of which the CRMA designee is a member.

In that the end user of a Reverse Mortgage product are senior homeowners, the CRMA designee is responsible for understanding how to best work with the senior homeowner. Most seniors are healthy, active, and alert. Yet, over time, some seniors may experience diminished physical and mental capacities — and may do their best to disguise these losses. Taken together, such characteristics make many seniors vulnerable to miscommunication, misunderstanding, and at worst, to being taken advantage of.

As a result, CRMA designees are obligated to follow a high standard of professional conduct. By earning the CRMA designation, professionals have taken an extra step to earn the respect and trust of their clients.
